Promoter
This promotional competition (the “Competition”) is run by DayOne Builds (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/316994/07, of 4 Glenhurst Road, Welcome Glen, Cape Town 7975 (“DayOne” or the “Promoter”).
The Competition is promoted in association with The Open Letter. The Open Letter is a media channel for the State of AI Delivery in South Africa campaign only. It is not a promoter of the Competition, does not fund the Prize and has no part in selecting the winner.
The Competition is a promotional competition under section 36 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (the “CPA”) and the CPA Regulations. These rules are written to comply with them.
Competition Period
The Competition opens at 00:01 SAST on Friday 2 October 2026 and closes at 23:59 SAST on Thursday 15 October 2026 (the “Competition Period”).
Entries made before or after the Competition Period are not valid. The time recorded by the survey platform is the time of entry.
How to enter
- To enter, complete the State of AI Delivery in South Africa survey (the “Survey”) at https://dayone.typeform.com/to/S5KD73rw and tick the box to be entered into the prize draw, supplying your name and contact details.
- Entry is free. No purchase, payment or donation is required or accepted. The only cost is the ordinary cost of your own internet connection.
- Entering the draw is optional. You can complete the Survey without entering, and choosing not to enter does not affect how your responses are used.
- One entry per person. If a person enters more than once, only the first valid entry counts, and the Promoter may disqualify all of that person's entries if it reasonably believes they tried to enter more than once.
- Entries must be made by the entrant personally. Entries made through bots, scripts, bulk or third-party submission services, or with false or someone else's details, are invalid.
- By entering, you confirm that the information you provide is true and your own, and that you accept these rules.
Who may enter
The Competition is open to natural persons who are resident in South Africa and aged 18 or older at the time of entry.
The following people may not enter or win:
- directors, members, partners, employees, agents and consultants of the Promoter, including any person currently contracted to the Promoter or placed by it with a client;
- directors, employees and contractors of The Open Letter;
- directors and employees of any sponsor of the State of AI Delivery in South Africa 2026 campaign;
- any person who supplies goods or services to the Promoter in connection with the Competition or the Survey, including survey design, analysis and administration; and
- the spouse, life partner, parent, child, sibling, or any person living in the same household as, any person in paragraphs (a) to (d).
The Promoter may ask any entrant or the winner for proof of identity, age and South African residence before the Prize is paid. A person who does not provide it within 7 days of the request forfeits the Prize.
The Prize
- There is one prize: R10,000 (ten thousand rand) in cash (the “Prize”). The Prize is funded by the Promoter.
- The Prize is paid by electronic funds transfer into a South African bank account in the winner's own name, within 14 days after the winner has been verified and has provided banking details.
- The winner pays no fee, charge or cost of any kind to receive the Prize.
- The Prize is not transferable and cannot be exchanged.
- The winner is responsible for any tax payable on the Prize. The Promoter will provide written confirmation of the Prize amount on request.
How the winner is selected
- The draw will take place on or before Friday 23 October 2026, after the Competition Period ends.
- The winner will be selected at random from all valid entries by a computer-generated random selection. The draw will be conducted in the presence of an independent person who is not employed by, and has no interest in, the Promoter, who will sign a record of the draw.
- The Promoter will contact the winner by email and telephone, using the details given at entry, within 7 days of the draw.
- If the winner does not respond within 7 days of first contact, is ineligible, or declines the Prize, the Prize is forfeited and a replacement winner will be drawn in the same way from the remaining valid entries. This process repeats until a winner accepts.
- The Promoter's decision on the result is final, subject to the entrant's rights under the CPA.
Results
The result will be published on dayone.build/state-of-ai-hub within 14 days of the winner accepting the Prize.
The winner's name or initials will be published or announced on the Promoter's and The Open Letter's channels, only with the winner's written consent. The winner may refuse publicity and still receive the Prize. No winner will be asked to take part in marketing as a condition of receiving the Prize.
No survey responses, organisation or other details of any entrant will be disclosed in any announcement.
Your personal information
DayOne is the responsible party, under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”), for the personal information collected for the Competition.
Your name and contact details given for the draw are used only to run the Competition: to conduct the draw, contact and verify the winner, pay the Prize, and keep the records the CPA requires. They are not used for marketing, and they are not shared with sponsors or with The Open Letter.
Your contact details are separated from your Survey responses before analysis. The State of AI Delivery in South Africa report uses only anonymised, aggregated results. Your Survey responses are otherwise governed by the Survey privacy notice at dayone.build/legal/privacy-policy.
The CPA requires the Promoter to keep records of the Competition, including entrants and the winner, for three years. Your Competition information will be kept for that period and then deleted or anonymised. The Promoter may give these records to the National Consumer Commission if it asks for them.
You may ask to see, correct or delete your information (subject to the record-keeping requirement), or complain about how it is handled, by contacting DayOne's Information Officer at liesel@dayone.build. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
General
- The Promoter may disqualify any entrant it reasonably believes has entered fraudulently or in breach of these rules.
- The Promoter may change, suspend or end the Competition only if something outside its reasonable control (such as a technical failure or a change in law) makes it impossible or unlawful to run fairly. Any change will be published at the address in the Results section. If the Competition is ended after it closes, the draw will still be held among the valid entries received.
- The Promoter is not responsible for entries lost, delayed or incomplete because of technical problems outside its control.
- Nothing in these rules limits any right you have under the CPA or other law.
- These rules are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
Questions about the Competition, and requests for a copy of these rules, can be sent to liesel@dayone.build. A copy is provided free of charge.
